Zoho Books after 30+ client deployments

Zoho Books is one of our most deployed products. Here's what it does well, where it's limited, and the workarounds we use most often.

What works well

For small and mid-sized businesses, Zoho Books covers invoicing, purchases, banking, inventory basics and GST or VAT compliance at a very reasonable cost. Its integration with Zoho CRM, Inventory and Sign makes it a natural fit for Zoho-based businesses.

  • GST e-invoicing and e-way bills in India
  • VAT support for the UAE and UK
  • Multi-currency and bank feeds
  • Customer portal and online payments

Where it is limited

  • Complex multi-entity consolidation
  • Advanced manufacturing and costing
  • Highly customised approval hierarchies
  • Large transaction volumes that need heavy reporting

Three workarounds we use often

  1. Custom Deluge functions for invoice numbering and validations that standard settings cannot handle
  2. Zoho Analytics for consolidated and management reporting across organisations
  3. Zoho Flow or webhooks for syncing with ecommerce and logistics platforms
When to move beyond BooksIf you need multi-entity consolidation, production costing or hundreds of users in finance, it is time to evaluate a full ERP.
