GST and invoicing
Both platforms can produce GST-compliant invoices with the right setup. Shopify typically relies on apps for GST invoices, while WooCommerce offers more control through plugins and custom templates. For B2B sellers requiring GSTIN capture and e-invoicing, integration with an accounting system such as Zoho Books is usually the cleanest approach.
Payments
Razorpay, PayU, Cashfree and UPI are available on both. Shopify Payments is not available in India, so third-party gateways apply on Shopify along with Shopify's transaction fees on some plans.
Logistics
Shiprocket, Delhivery and other aggregators integrate with both platforms. COD handling, RTO reduction and pincode serviceability are often more important than the platform choice itself.
Total cost of ownership
- Shopify: predictable subscription, lower maintenance, app costs add up
- WooCommerce: lower licence cost, but hosting, security and updates are your responsibility
